Dear Alumni/Faculty/Students, and Friends of the Institute:
What were you doing in 1984?
Working?
College?
High School?
Grade School or before!?
A few news highlights of 1984 include:
· Aids virus identified by French immunologist
· AT&T broken Up
· The first Apple Macintosh goes on sale
· Sony and Philips introduce the first commercial CD Players
· Sony makes the first 3 1/2" computer disk
· The space shuttle Discovery makes its maiden voyage
· First flight in space by un-tethered humans using rocket packs
· Genetic fingerprinting or DNA profiling was developed
George Orwell gave the year a special place in the minds of readers with his novel ‘1984’ written in 1949. Fortunately his vision did not prevail.
To us, the most important event of 1984 was...
The Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering Institute was founded at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina in response to a call from industry and state government to supply leaders for manufacturing.
As of December 2008, we have graduated over 365 students, who work in all areas of manufacturing in the United States and around the world!
We know times are hard now for most of us, but we also know we need to celebrate when we can. So, please join us on Saturday, April 18, 2009 for dinner and celebration. We will be gathering at 6:00 p.m. at the China Town Restaurant, which is owned by
one of our own: Ruqian “Able” Li (’99). Check out their web site at: http://www.chinatown-nc.com/ for full menu ideas, directions, and contact information. We will have our own area where we can meet and greet old and new alumni.
Did you know we have a father and son who have both graduated from IMSE Institute? We also have had several husband/wives getting their degrees at the same time as well.
So, check your calendar and make plans to attend. We sincerely hope you can join us. If you are not able to join us this time, please take a moment or two to tell me what you are doing now whether work or personal related. We are putting together an alumni “scrapbook” of memories, photos and information. Please help us out.
Any questions or comments? Just call either myself, Steve Jackson (’93) at 919-515-3808 or Thom Hodgson at 919-515-5194. Very soon we will have our new web site up and running – we’ll let you know.
Thanks and here’s hoping to hear from you soon.
Nancy Evans
